ACC to strengthen trade relations with Moldova

 

The Board of Directors of the Amman Chamber of Commerce discussed with the non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Kingdom, Dimitri Croitor, ways to enhance trade cooperation between the two countries and the role of private sector institutions in this regard.

 

According to a statement by the Chamber, the two sides discussed the importance of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic fields, stressing the importance of the embassy’s role in enhancing economic cooperation in general and commercial cooperation in particular between the two countries.

 

The First Vice Chairman of the Chamber, Nabil Khatib, stated that trade exchanges between the two countries are modest, pointing out that the lack of direct airlines, or air and sea freight on the one hand, and the lack of ease of obtaining visas to enter the Republic of Moldova on the other hand, would negatively impact the movement of commercial activity. And the movement of people between the two countries.

 

He pointed out the necessity of working to exploit opportunities and areas that would contribute to increasing trade exchange and making efforts to enhance it, and emphasizing cooperation in the tourism fields, as the two countries are rich in archaeological and tourist attractions, especially religious tourism in Jordan.

 

Khatib pointed out the importance of signing a memorandum of understanding between the Amman Chamber of Commerce and its counterpart in the Republic of Moldova before the end of this year, as a first step to strengthen the partnership between the commercial sector in the two countries and make it effective and tangible on the ground, which will be reflected in the performance of the commercial sector and revitalize its work.

 

For his part, Ambassador Croitor indicated that his country, which is located in Eastern Europe between Ukraine and Romania, believes in the necessity of strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the tourism and agricultural sectors, stressing that his country is also famous for the fertility of its soil, as it exports wheat, corn, and most agricultural products of vegetables and fruits.

 

He stressed the embassy's interest in cooperating with the Amman Chamber of Commerce to accelerate the pace of signing the memorandum of understanding, contribute to the exchange of economic information, and provide a database for commercial goods between the two countries with the aim of strengthening bilateral economic relations, pointing out that the private sector is the backbone of the national economy and a basic engine for revitalizing the commercial movement.

 

In turn, the Second Vice Chairman of the Chamber, Bahjat Hamdan, and Member of the Board of Directors, Ala'a Eddin Deranieh, who attended the meeting, confirmed the Chamber’s readiness to circulate any business opportunities available in the Republic of Moldova to its members and to network businessmen to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

 

They pointed out the importance of exchanging trade delegations to identify promising opportunities and promote the available trade and investment opportunities for the benefit of both countries, and to focus on specific sectors on which success stories can be built and then expand into other trade sectors.

 

They stressed the importance of cooperation in the tourism field, and the Chamber’s readiness to coordinate with the tourism sector in Jordan to create tourism programs at reasonable prices for tourist groups in the Republic of Moldova to view the tourist and archaeological sites in the Kingdom.

 

In addition, during the meeting attended by the Consul at the Moldova Embassy, Victoria Bodi, and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in the Kingdom, Mazen Tantash, the Director General of the Chamber, Hisham Dweik, pointed out the opportunities for trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and the prospects for enhancing them, in many promising sectors.
